Mr. Hyche’s work in the wealth transfer planning area concerns all aspects of estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning, including complex wills and revocable trusts, generation-skipping trusts, charitable trusts, charitable foundations, family limited partnerships, qualified personal residence trusts, sales to intentionally defective grantor trusts, post-mortem planning, and estate and gift tax returns. In the trusts and estates area, he represents trustees, personal representatives, and beneficiaries during the administration process, and he is involved with the modification, reformation, and termination of irrevocable trusts. Mr. Hyche’s work in the tax and business transactions area includes structuring purchases and sales of business interests and real estate; formation of partnerships, limited liability companies, and corporations; structuring and drafting partnership agreements, operating agreements for limited liability companies, and shareholders’ agreements for corporations; structuring incentive stock option plans; implementing like-kind exchanges; advising clients on the complex issues related to withdrawals from and designating beneficiaries of qualified plans and IRAs; establishing non-profit corporations and qualifying the non-profit corporations for tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service; and working with individuals, trusts and business entities in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and the South Carolina Department of Revenue. He focuses on representing owners of family businesses and other closely held businesses in regard to the unique tax and nontax planning opportunities available to these businesses and their owners including the development of a practical and comprehensive business succession plan. His clients consist of a broad range of individuals, trusts, estates, corporations, family-owned businesses, private foundations, and other tax-exempt organizations.

Civic & Charitable Activities

Mr. Hyche is a member of the board for the Furman University Planned Giving Committee, the Greenville Zoo Foundation, the Furman University Annual Giving Council, the Cancer Society of Greenville County, the Piedmont Health Care Foundation, and the Greenville Country Club. In addition to being on the board of the Community Foundation of Greater Greenville, Mr. Hyche also serves as the Community Foundation’s legal counsel. He is an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hyche has been active with the United Way of Greenville County and the Christ Church Episcopal School Alumni Association.

Professional Activities

  • Mr. Hyche serves as a member of the Tax Law Section Council of the South Carolina Bar, and he is a past president of the Greenville Estate Planning Council.

Accolades

  • Mr. Hyche is a certified specialist in estate planning and probate law with the South Carolina Supreme Court. He is a graduate of Leadership Greenville XXVII and the 2001 Hull Leadership Program of the Southeastern Council of Foundations. He is listed in “Best Lawyers in America” in two areas: Taxation and Trusts and Estates, and was named to Greenville Business Magazine’s “Best and Brightest Under 35.” While in law school, Mr. Hyche was an associate editor of the Cumberland Law Review.
